about
Rear View speaks about how people can be so driven and focused on the road ahead that they miss out on the here and now.
Recording this track live was a conscious decision to make a change from the highly-produced sound of my album, It Takes A Village. It let us strip the song back to its natural elements to give everything its breathing room in the mix and get closer to that raw live feeling that we’re known for.
The video was recorded simultaneously.
lyrics
Can you see me coming in the rear view?
Burning rubber trying to get near you
Pull in by your side I’m a slow down
Just turn around, got you in my sights, nowhere to hide
Can you see me coming in the rear view?
Burning rubber trying to get near you
Pull in by your side I’m a slow down
With every mile that your clocking, soon nowhere to hide
All these expectations, driving me in (sane)
Windows slowly wind down
(Slowly wind down)
All these destinations, driving me in (insane)
Never fully wind down
Pull over you got to lay it down
Red behind your eyes you're glazed now
Warning light says bout to break down
Wheel’s coming off someday now
Every problem try to swerve round
Speeding ticket every day now
Leaving it all in a haze now
Can’t you see it’s time to slow it down?
Can you see me coming in the rear view?
Burning rubber trying to get near you
Pull in by your side I’m a slow down
Just turn around, got you in my sights, nowhere to hide
Can you see me coming in the rear view?
Burning rubber trying to get near you
Pull in by your side I’m a slow down
With every mile that your clocking, soon nowhere to hide
This acceleration driving me in (sane)
I need tints to wind down
(Need to wind down)
This perseveration, driving me in (sane)
I need tints to zone out
Pull over and let your hair down
Or you might end up underground
Know you’re thinking that you're homebound
SOS you’re lost can’t be found
Top down too long in the rain now
Shivering cold but you're too proud
You can ask for help you’re allowed
Can’t you see it’s time to slow it down?
Can you see me coming in the rear view?
Burning rubber trying to get near you
Pull in by your side I’m a slow down
Just turn around, got you in my sights, nowhere to hide
Can you see me coming in the rear view?
Burning rubber trying to get near you
Pull in by your side I’m a slow down
With every mile that your clocking, soon nowhere to hide
